Older People’s Housing Expert Workshop

On the 4th June 2015, the PPIW held an expert workshop on the challenges that population ageing poses for housing needs in Wales and what the Welsh Government might do to meet them. The workshop, held at Aberdare Hall in Cardiff, was attended by experts from Wales, the rest of the UK and other European countries including representatives from Swansea University, Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Vieillesse (Paris), the Netwell Centre at the Dundalk Institute of Technology (Ireland), McCarthy & Stone, Care and Repair Cymru, the Older People’s Commission for Wales, Hendre Housing Association and Welsh Government as well as independent consultants. The workshop was premised on an evidence review and resulted in a report of recommendations to the Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty. In light of the recommendations the Minister has convened a working group which began work in December 2015.
